Adam has just started to rebuild this 1998 MPi cooper, and although it is the newest mini I have worked on, it is one of the worst for rust. Just look at the pictures below of this ten year old car and you will realise that this is why the brittish car industry is no more!!!!

After a long while I have finally made the car solid by welding in over 50 new panels and plates! The rest of the car was stripped down for the very long painting process to begin. On the underside all the welds have been ground back and sealed. Then the whole underside including the engine bay recieved a cemical anti rust treatment and a coat of Zinc primmer. I then applied two coats of stonechip. Next was a grey primmer coat and followed by 3 coats of the Nightfire Red Base Coat and 3.5 litres of Standox Lacquer on top of it all, If only they went to this much effort at the factory!
Progress is being made and hopefully soon there will be pictures of a fully painted shell! I have filled and primed the interior of the car and boot and then applied The cars exterior has been flatted, any bare metal treated and all timely filler work has been done. All new arch holes and holes for the new MK1 grill I have opted for have been drilled, so they recieve some paint in the holes. Its had 2 coats of 2K filler primer applied. I have then spent many hours fine sanding this primer ready for paint. The roof has been painted in ford panther black and lacquered. I have gone to the extremes of painting the A and C piller seems and their clips before fitting the cover strips, which has also been painted on the inside!
